The Emergency Operation Standpipe:

This component of the Sewer Pump Station is a “last resort” part of the design.  This is intended to be used only if all three pumps have failed or cannot be used because of a complete power failure and generator failure.  Levels in the Wetwell are rising and overflowing into the Overflow Tank, and a repair will take too long.

The Standpipe is an Auxiliary Pump Connect where one could borrow, purchase, or rent  a portable gasoline driven pump and use that pump in lieu of the normal pumps.  These portable pumps usually have a large suction hose attached to them that can be submerged in the fluid to be pumped.  One would drop the suction hose into the Wetwell and be ready to pump.

The Cam Lock fitting on the Standpipe fits many standard portable pump discharge hoses.  One would connect the discharge hose to this fitting.

The procedure then would be to lift the Valve Box covers on the Pump #1 and #2 Outlet Valve Box (the blue valves) and close both of those valves.  Then lift the cover on the Standpipe Valve (see below) and open that valve.

Once the Standpipe Valve is open, the portable pump with its suction hose in the Wetwell can start to pump the fluid from the Wetwell into the Force Main and on to the Hotel.
